When the rock demands everything
There are projects where the rock does not forgive. Hard faces, demanding tunnel profiles, wet blastholes, schedules with no room for delay. UG Bulk Emulsion HYDRA 6000 was built for exactly those projects.
It is a booster-sensitive emulsion explosive that combines both high detonation velocity and high energy during its explosion, covering every need during mining processes. It is a complementary product to UG Bulk Emulsion 100 and is used when higher performance needs to be met. It contains sodium perchlorate in order to achieve great power and is a unique bulk emulsion product.
The numbers speak for themselves
Benchmarked against ANFO at 100% (density 0.80 g/cm³, effective energy 2.50 MJ/kg), HYDRA 6000 delivers a relative weight strength of 136% and a relative bulk strength of 155%. For the same blasthole volume, that means well over one and a half times the energy output of conventional ANFO.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density of non-sensitized matrix (g/cm³) | 1.40 ± 0.10 |
| Gassed product density (g/cm³) | 1.10 ± 0.10 |
| Oxygen Balance (%) | -0.90 |
| Gas Volume (L/kg) | 930 |
| Heat of explosion (kJ/kg) | 3,227 |
| Relative weight strength RWS (%)*** | 136 |
| Relative bulk strength RBS (%)*** | 155 |
| Detonation velocity (m/s)* | > 6,500 |
* The velocity of detonation depends on application, rock type, blasthole diameter and confinement. *** 100% of relative effective energy refers to ANFO: density 0.80 g/cm³, effective energy 2.50 MJ/kg. All values are theoretical, based on ideal detonation circumstances.
Produced on site, at the working face
UG Bulk Emulsion HYDRA 6000 is produced on site by the modern technology of ELTEK’s mixing-charging systems. This innovative system ensures maximum risk reduction through the delayed activation of the emulsion explosive after usually 30 minutes.
In practice, this means the explosive does not exist as an explosive until the moment it needs to. The three components — Matrix, R1 and R2 — are not explosives. They are classified as class 5.1 and delivered to the construction site by truck in certified stainless steel tanks of 1,300 or 1,400 kg. Transport and on-site storage safety is dramatically simplified.
The bulk charging systems fit into every tunnel profile, are available in different sizes and on different carrier vehicles, and as an independent unit can be used with great flexibility.
Behind the product: the Grevena facilities
The matrix for HYDRA 6000 is produced at ELTEK’s facilities in Agalaioi, Grevena: 140,000 m² of privately owned land, 27 modern industrial facilities built in 2023 and 2024, and a production capacity of 4 tonnes of explosive emulsion per hour.
Production is governed by the same strict standards that apply across the company:
- ISO 9001:2015 — Quality Management System, accredited by TÜV Austria Hellas, explicitly covering MATRIX production.
- ISO 14001:2015 — Environmental Management System (TÜV Austria Hellas).
- ISO 45001:2018 — Occupational Health & Safety (TÜV Austria Hellas).
- Operation in compliance with KYA 3329/89, the SEVESO III safety study and all applicable national and European legislation.
It is a Greek product, manufactured to European standards — and that is not a slogan, it is certified.
What your project gains
- Can be pumped with a pump capacity of 30 to 50 kg/min. The loading time of a working face is reduced by 40% compared to conventional loading with cartridged explosives.
- Suitable for use in boreholes that are dropping after loading.
- Extremely resistant to water.
- Very low volume of toxic fumes — reduces post-blast fumes and improves turnaround time.
- Develops excellent gas volume.
- Excellent safety against mechanical impact and friction.
- Drill hole savings and maximum borehole charging.
- Customizable explosive properties to match project requirements.
How the market has responded
HYDRA 6000 and ELTEK’s bulk charging technologies have been presented at the sector’s leading events, most recently at the International QUARRY 2026 Exhibition, where the company showcased its full range alongside its pioneering uphole bulk-charging technology — ELTEK is the first company to license and apply bulk explosives in underground mines in the Balkan countries.
Interest from mining engineers, chemical engineers and blasting supervisors has been strong, both for the product’s performance and for the on-site production model. The feedback we receive from live projects consistently converges on the same points: charging speed, a cleaner face after the blast, and consistency of performance.
Application, storage and shelf life
UG Bulk Emulsion HYDRA 6000 is suitable for blasting in road tunnels and underground mining operations, and can be used successfully on all types of rock and in mining operations with very high requirements.
Storage can take place on the construction site in a warehouse or underground at a temperature of at least 15 °C. Shelf life is 6 months from the date of manufacture, if stored under the designated conditions. At every step of use and transport, the instructions of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) apply.
