“Explosives & Blasting”: ELTEK at the University of Western Macedonia Workshop
Knowledge gains its true value when it is shared. Guided by this principle, ELTEK is taking part in the “Explosives & Blasting” workshop organised by the Department of Mineral Resources Engineering of the University of Western Macedonia. The event will take place on Wednesday, 20 May 2026 at 12:00, at the Small Amphitheatre of the University Campus in Koila, Kozani.

Date: Wednesday, 20 May 2026 Time: 12:00 Venue: Small Amphitheatre, University Campus, Koila, Kozani Organised by: Department of Mineral Resources Engineering, University of Western Macedonia In collaboration with: ELTEK & PPC S.A. |
Bridging academia and industry
The workshop brings academic research together with industrial practice — in a sector where theory and application must move forward with absolute precision. For ELTEK, taking part in knowledge-sharing events is part of a wider commitment: to support the next generation of engineers and to contribute to the overall advancement of the commercial explosives industry.
Presentations by ELTEK executives
Three ELTEK executives will share their experience and expertise as part of the programme:
- Nikolaos Christopoulos, Facility Director & Health and Safety Coordinator — “Health and Safety in the Modern High-Risk Industry”.
- Alexandros Tokatlidis, Production Manager — “Next-Generation Commercial Explosives: Operational and Environmental Benefits”.
- Ayhan Hur, Explosives Projects & Operations Manager — “The History of Explosives and the Application of Commercial Explosives”.
The programme is further enriched by a presentation from Mr Miltiadis Triantafyllou, Hard Formations Handling Sector Head at the South Field Mine of PPC S.A., on the design and execution of blasting in surface lignite mines.
Safety and next-generation explosives
The topics of the workshop reflect the values that guide ELTEK every day. Health and safety are not merely an obligation but a culture that permeates every level of operation. At the same time, next-generation explosives — with lower toxic fumes, high performance and an improved environmental footprint — demonstrate that operational efficiency and respect for the environment can advance hand in hand.
A partnership that keeps evolving
ELTEK’s participation in the workshop is part of a broader collaboration with the University of Western Macedonia. Within this collaboration, ELTEK operates a Detonation Chamber — the only facility of its kind in Europe for commercial explosives — which studies detonation velocity, released energy, oxygen balance and the characteristics of the gases produced by each explosion. It is an investment that establishes ELTEK as a point of reference for the development of explosives in Europe.
We invite students, engineers and industry professionals to attend the “Explosives & Blasting” workshop and to join the dialogue on the present and future of commercial explosives.
Stronger. Safer. Committed.
